I'm just gonna get right to it. my job — in fact an entire media company — just got nuked. I haven't published anything on Okay Zoomer since July because everything I wrote belonged to said company, but now it no longer exists. And I NEED to post. OKZ is my job now.
This newsletter is now going to offer a paid subscription plan. If you don’t want to pay for it, you’ll get one post per week. If you do, you’ll get two. You can double your dog for only $5! I used to say that’s the cost of buying me a cup of coffee but that’s more like $7 now. So you’re saving money.
Now on to logistics. As I said, my plan is to publish twice a week now — once on Wednesday, and once on Sunday. What exactly that looks like is still up in the air, but I can promise you the following is on my radar:
a column that functions as an essay, a trend explainer, a profile, a reported story, or an interview
other quick news hits and explainers of what’s trending
breakdowns of new Gen Z studies
my take on current events as an expert in online youth culture
links to recent stories about Gen Z & the internet
missives about what I’m into online right now
And more!!!!!
It won’t be anything less than what you can find on my archive currently. In fact, I can guarantee it will be more. I NEED TO POST!!
I’m also finally going to do something about all the books I read. I’m about to finish #200 for 2023 and I’m only getting more deranged as I’m unemployed. I started a side newsletter for that, which will be weekly and include three hyperspecific book recommendations. It is called… hyperspecific book recommendations. It’s free and will go out on Friday nights. Sub below!
In summary — thank you for the support. No column today as I’m still tying up loose ends at my job that no longer exists, but here are some links.
